Course Overview

The Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing/Professional Studies) programme. It is a multidisciplinary programme, delivered on a part-time basis. This programme is appropriate for students who have already undertaken a primary degree or higher diploma (health science/studies or social science/studies related) at level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) (National Qualifications Authority of Ireland, 2003). Students undertake a total of six modules at level 9 on the NFQ to gain a Postgraduate Diploma.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a registered nurse on the Register maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

OR

  • Be registered on the appropriate allied health professional Register*

AND
Be currently employed in healthcare or social care either in: clinical or social care practice/management/ research /education. Some modules may only be undertaken while working in a specific discipline related area such as nursing. This is specified in modules descriptions.

Applicants will normally have gained:
A primary degree (health science/studies or social science/studies related) level 8 or evidence of equivalent academic credits. Students who do not have the aforementioned will be required to compile a portfolio to provide evidence of their ability to study at post-graduate level.

  • International students will require a degree of fluency in the English language. An overall score of 7 in the IELTS Academic Test is required.

Course Outline

The model of delivery will allow potential students to study 2 modules (or more) per year on a standalone basis. Students who complete up to 6 modules within a 2-3-year timeframe will be eligible for the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing Studies), if the student is a registered nurse; or, Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Professional Studies), if the student is an allied health care, or social care professional. Students undertake the first 4 modules on a standalone basis and having completed 4 modules successfully they register for the Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing/Professional Studies). Once students complete 6 modules within the 2-3-year timeframe, they gain a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing/Professional Studies).

Many of our standalone modules are delivered through blended learning/e-learning allowing you the option of studying at your own pace in your own home.
