Postgraduate Dip/Cert in Arts (Professional Studies in Special Educational Needs)
Course Overview
The course provides a Postgraduate qualification for all professionals interested in the area of Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The Centre for Special Educational Needs, Inclusion and Diversity at St. Angela’s College, Sligo has, in recent, years developed a number of online blended-learning options at postgraduate level for all professionals interested in the areas of SEN. There are currently nine modules to choose from in the area of Professional Studies in Special Educational Needs:

- General Learning Disabilities
- Inclusion for Learning
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Specific Learning Difficulties 1 - Communication, Speech and Language Difficulties and Dyslexia
- Specific Learning Difficulties 2 - Dyscalculia, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder
This modular blended learning course (which includes e-tivities, discussion boards and some face-to-face workshops) is offered over two years.
The aim of the modules is to provide substantial theoretical and practical continuing professional development for those interested in and/or working with learners with special educational needs.
Please note you may only choose one module per semester.
Applications and Selections
Complete and submit CSENID Stand Alone Application Form 2020-2021 to the Centre for Special Educational Needs, Inclusion and Diversity (Education Department) at St. Angela's College.
Closing date for applications for the October 2020 modules will be Monday 14th September. Due to the large volume of applications in recent months, it is strongly advised to apply as soon as you have decided on your preferred option as places will be awarded on a first come basis.

Blended Learning.
Continuous assessment will apply throughout the programme. It will combine coursework on relevant aspects of Special Educational Needs with e-tivities, discussion boards, portfolio/project-based learning, literature reviews and case studies, which will be carried out within an appropriate educational context during the academic year. The concept of the ‘reflective practitioner’ will be a basic criterion permeating all forms of assessment.

Course Outline
The standalone online blended learning modules involve e-tivities, discussion boards and face-to-face workshops and have a credit weighting of 15 ECTS. Modules are offered regularly over the academic year. All modules are completed within a nine week timeframe.
January Modules commence on Monday 4th January 2021
Workshop (compulsory): Saturday 9th January 2021
Blended learning modules will commence on Monday 4 January 2021. They will follow the format of previous years in most aspects except in relation to the organisation of the Saturday workshop. The workshop is an important element of the modules and will still occur. However, the workshop will be delivered virtually rather than face-to-face.
Completion of two modules from the suite of on-line blended learning modules listed above (30 ECTS) = Postgraduate Certificate
Completion of four modules from the suite of on-line blended learning modules listed above (60 ECTS) = Postgraduate Diploma

Further Education
Participants may progress to Masters level on successful completion of three modules which must include the online blended learning module: Educational Research Methods. The exit award will be a Master of Arts (Professional Studies in Special Educational Needs).
